Surnames And Places We Are Researching

For the last 20 years I have been interested in learning more about my family. My dad came to Canada and lost contact with his relatives. I made it my goal to find them and reunite him with them. They reunion was short lived, as he passed away within a couple of years and only spoke with a couple of siblings.

The search for my RATTRAY family still living in Scotland opened up a life long quest to learn more about who we, as a family, are and where we came from.

As I learned more on one side of the family, I also started looking into the other side of my family, WERESCHUK and SAUCHUK. I hit an immediate brick wall after finding out that they came from the area that Hitler destroyed. My family tombstones were used as part of a road built for Hitler to drive through the area on and, well, gloat at the distruction of the area he hated most! I am still looking though. Almost every day, because I am sure there are copies of documents somewhere, and I will find them. Eventually!

Having gotten that far, I was hooked. My husband's family had a family historian already, Roy Rushka, who had gathered 60 years worth of their family's history. Roy and I got together and I helped him to work out some of his brick walls and further his research even after he thought it wasn't possible to find more.

Well, that was it. I was so hooked that I started looking into all the families connected to my family and my husbands family and more.

The Chodsko Region

The region of Chodsko, as we know it today, is only a small part of the original settlement on the western border of the country which once covered a large area extending from the town of Domazlice through Bor and Tachov to Plana.

Who Were The Chod

The Chodové People were a group of people in Bohemia, mainly in the surroundings of towns Domažlice, Tachov and P?imda. Their duty was to guard the borders between Bohemia and Bavaria. They were direct servants of the king with significant privileges that differentiated them from other inhabitants. For centuries the privileges by king were held, until W.M.

I would like to take a moment to pay tribute to someone who changed my life and the life of many of his family and friends.

Welcome to the new ChodovePeople.Com!

I have managed to update the website. It doesn't look pretty yet, but it should be running smoothly!

NOTE: I am working on the menu links. It will be hard to get around until I have them all in place, but the search function works if you are looking for something specific!
